Visiting Jeonju was high up on my “things to do in Korea” list. It is famous for its delicious food and the beautiful Jeonju Hanok Village. When I asked Annalise if she wanted to go with me, she was more than excited!
Overall, this trip was a great experience. I was surprised at how small a city Jeonju is. Although I did not get to explore Jeonju outside of the Hanok Village, I got the impression that the Hanok Village was THE hot spot of the city. The village is also not that big, so I would not recommend a stay longer than two days. Having seen (and eaten) almost everything the village has to offer, Annalise and I actually ended up spending most of our last day charging our phones and cooling down in a cafe. Nonetheless, it is absolutely beautiful and I highly recommend visiting this village.
Jeonju, located in north Jeolla Province, is about a two-and-half hour bus ride from Seoul. I found that it is easier to go to Jeonju by bus than train because the Jeonju bus terminal is way closer to the Hanok Village than the Jeonju train station is. Also, the buses are super nice and are half the price of trains. The bus ride does not feel that long because the rest stop itself is an adventure. Go figure!
The nice thing about the Jeonju Hanok Village is the nice assortment of modern cafes and traditional Korean restaurants. In between meals, we cooled ourselves down with iced americanos and smoothies at a cute coffee shop that showed a great view of the entire village.
Our lodging for the night was one of the best parts of the trip! The “hotel” is built like a traditional Korean home, except it is completely renovated inside with full electricity and, more importantly, air conditioner!
We had a two-story room, where I slept on the first floor and Annalise slept on the second. This is the first floor, and as you can see from the photos, it has a TV and air conditioner!
